If your AC unit is beginning to ice up, then you need to stop it from doing so further for the sake of the motor and your floor! The most common cause that you can fix yourself is that the dirty air filter is causing a backup of cold air back into the system. If your machine is icing up, follow these steps to see if they help!
Insufficient Air Flow – Usually, the most common problem with AC freezing over has to do with the same reason you can fix it. Something is blocking the cold air from getting out, and so it is backing up into the system. This means anything from a vent is clogged to a part of the AC. The unit itself becomes clogged or malfunctioning.
Mechanical Errors – Another problem that is common with freezing over is that there is a mechanical error somewhere in the system. If you are having a problem with it freezing over it can be anything from a bad coil to a fan that stopped working. The machine is still generating cold air; it just isn’t going anywhere.
Both of these problems are pretty specific, and if an amateur tries to fix it, they could end up causing more harm than good. It’s best that if the filter doesn’t work, you should call us and have us check it out.
